INTRODUCING MALIK “FREEDOM”

The Voice Behind SIR-CASM

For Malik “Freedom”, stand-up comedy isn’t simply entertainment — it’s been a lifelong passion.

His relationship with comedy began at just five years old, listening to Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx on 33 RPM records. In 1983, that fascination became visual when he stayed up around midnight to watch Eddie Murphy’s Delirious premiere on HBO. Over the next 18 years, Freedom consumed more than 500 hours of stand-up, becoming a student and connoisseur of the craft.

But everything changed when a contracting assignment took him to Tracy, California, and he drove to Fresno to experience his first live comedy show.

Five minutes into the performance, the room filled with laughter. Freedom looked around at complete strangers temporarily forgetting their problems and stresses and realized that everything he’d experienced with comedy had been leading him to that moment.

He didn’t just want to watch comedy; he wanted to create the room where the laughter happened.

And when the show ended, Freedom’s instincts were already different from those of the average fan.

While everyone else began getting autographs, Freedom began getting contact information.

Without a company, a production résumé or even his first show under his belt, he was already thinking about relationships, access and what could come next.

That moment marked the transition from comedy fan to future comedy producer.

In 2009, after saving his own money, Freedom produced his first comedy show at Grooves of Houston on Pierce Street. Even then, he was thinking beyond the stage. He paid to have the show filmed and prepared questions for the comedians to answer on camera while he handled his responsibilities as executive producer.

When the footage arrived on DVD, Freedom opened it on his laptop and discovered video editing for the first time. Fascinated, he spent hours teaching himself the basics and successfully edited portions of the footage that same day. Wanting to understand the craft properly, he later invested in film school to study filmmaking, production, and editing.

Those experiences helped shape Freedom Unlimited Productions and its mission of spreading positive energy, one individual at a time through entertainment and laughter.

Today, that journey enters a new chapter as the voice behind SIR-CASM, a play on Sir and sarcasm. Through SIR-CASM, Freedom will explore comedy behind the jokes — the people, stories, culture, business, and humanity behind the laughter.

SIR-CASM will also provide a natural platform to introduce readers to Freedom’s larger vision, Behind The Jokes, a premium comedy concept rooted in a curiosity he’s carried since his very first production:

The comedian makes us laugh. Behind The Jokes introduces us to the person behind the laughs.

More than two decades after discovering his calling inside that Fresno comedy club, Malik “Freedom” remains committed to creating laughter, telling the stories behind it, and spreading positive energy, one individual at a time.

Comedy Lives, Laugh It Up.
