Back when the courts were passing laws outlawing parents from seeking appropriate health care for their Trans children and threatening with penalty any medical staff that would provide treatment, I paraphrased MKL and said that as long as any of us are treated unjustly, we are all treated, or have the potential to be treated unjustly.
Since that time there has been open attacks on the gay and lesbian community, threatening to do away with “right to marry”.
They’ve come after pregnant people who need or want to have an abortion. This means children (12 yrs old +/-). This means rape victims who now get the trauma of carrying to full term and then birthing and raising the offspring of their rapists.
But we’re not done yet, see, you thought you would be safe.
Now they’re wanting to stop access to contraception making a woman’s place in this world more vulnerable.
They’re saying that the only real role of a woman is to be a housemaker for a man. Doing all of the wonderful things women have done for free for millennia. I would not be surprised for them to come out and say that if you’re female and not married there will be some kind of penalty.
They want to know when a lady has her monthly, for what reason I can’t even fathom. But they do.
They think the primary role of women is to keep house and have and raise children and with no birth control probably more than has been our recent history.
Oh, and the role of post-menopausal women is to be stay-at-home-grandmothers.
I even heard a preacher recently that said if he had his way, he would make it so that women couldn’t vote. Wouldn’t be able to voice their opinions, of course, because the patriarchy wants women to be silent and just obey.
The conservative church claims to love its women, yet we hear of these churches having male sexual predators, but at worst the pred is getting a hand-slapping and the victim is receiving condemnation or commanded silence.
What’s next? I might guess a tax on non-two-heterosexual households. A tax for those who have fewer than X number of children or a tax break for those who have more children than X. And since there are more women in this country than men, perhaps allowing men to have more than one wife. … the OT could be used as a proof text.
They’re wanting to do away with no-fault divorce which sounds great — but that would mean that one party would have to provide specific proof to the reason the divorce is requested and if not “proven satisfactorily’ would have to remain married to their abuser. Since much of this comes down to one's word against another’s word and the system leaning towards believing men as they have for years in cases of rape, there is little hope for the woman’s accusations.
Project 2025 implies that the father is the most important figure in a child’s life, which might make it easier for men to get custody of their offspring and leave the wife with nothing … no children and no alimony. I’m not arguing that a father isn’t important, but if he is important, then shouldn’t he be involved beforehand in the lives of the children as a positive influence? But a binary male who just shows up for dinner and to watch TV has little positive influence in the lives of their children.
They also imply that it’s better for the woman to remain in an abusive relationship for the sake of the children. My experience from talking to people who have lived those times as children and those in the counseling field that have dealt with adults childhood trauma from that kind of unsafe household would tell you that divorce is better on everyone except the perpetrator who doesn’t like his shame-game being stopped.
And I haven’t even touched on owning property, buying a house or car, having a bank account in your name, etc., etc., etc.
As James Baldwin once said, “if they come for me in the night, they will come for you in the day.” Because at that point all of their atrocities will have been justified. This is not George Orwellian fiction, this is not Huxley fiction. This is the real world and in a very short time we will have an opportunity to make a decision (via vote) that we will have to justify to our children and grandchildren in years to come.
